We spent a good bit of time on the water while we were staying in Bar Harbor. We saw the puffins and seals and many whales. We were also lucky enough to come across a Mola Mola and a Basking Shark. We braved the crowds and took in a sunset from the top of Cadillac Mountain which was spectacular. We had good intentions of getting there for a sunrise, but the we actually had a good bit of fog and cloud cover the week we were there so we decided bed at 4:30 am is just as nice. My husband and I took a night hike down to Little Hunter's Beach which was amazing. We had a good moon that night so we were able to do most of it with just the moonlight...me imagining all sorts of trolls and critters that live only in the pages of books.

More photographs from our week hiking the coast and forest in Acadia National Park.
We spent a week in Maine exploring Acadia, hiking, tide pooling, and eating our way through Bar Harbor. We had always wanted wanted hike Acadia, and now that the girls are getting old enough to enjoy long and strenuous hikes we thought it was time. All they talked about was tidepools. They couldn't wait to find sea creatures. I have to admit that both my husband and I were totally excited about that too. The first thing we did when we arrived in Bar Harbor, after ditching our luggage and food, was to take the long winding drive up to the top of Cadillac Mountain to get a view of Bar Harbor, the ocean, and the mountains. The next day we made our way down to Seawall and Wonderland to do some tidepooling.
